Empowering Girls

Recently, Country Director Tessa Davis went to visit the four girls receiving scholarships from the Just Like My Child.  All of these young women are tremendously bright and talented and with out the help of Just Like My Child never would have had an opportunity to have a formal education. At a young age they probably would have ended up pregnant or very possibly HIV positive.

The girls are thrilled to have the opportunity to go to school, as is evident by their radiant smiles!

(Left to right: Josephine Nalubombwe, Josephine Namata, Nyangoma Racheal and Veronica Nankubuge.)

Veronica Nankubuge is excelling in Mathematics! Go Veronica! Her teacher is very impressed with her improvement and class involvement throughout the year. Her teacher has every confidence that she will continue to advance as the year progresses and go onto P.5 next year

Nyangoma Racheal was praised by her teacher for being very friendly and social. She is extremely helpful in the classroom and excels at singing, dancing and drama. She has started out a bit slow academically because she has come from such a poor village, but her teacher thinks that she will advance as time goes on.

Namata Josephine is excelling in both Science and Social Studies. Her teacher says that she is on track and just needs to spend a bit more time studying. Namata seems to take her studies very seriously and Tessa has every confidence that she will succeed. Her teacher is certain that she will go on to P.6 next year.

Josephine Nalubombwe is excelling in Social Studies, which is her favorite subject. Her teacher has encouraged her to finish the homework packets that are given at holiday time to help supplement her learning. Part of the challenge is that Josephine is responsible for working around the house when she is home for holidays.

Clearly both Tessa and the girls are enjoying getting to know each other!
